Transportation in Agra

Agra's transport scene is built around three tiers: auto-rickshaws for short hops, app-based cabs for comfort, and the tourist hop-on buses that loop the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort axis. Auto-rickshaws are everywhere and cost a fraction of a taxi. But agree the fare before you climb in, meters are decorative. For a smoother ride, use the ride-hailing apps you already have on your phone. They eliminate haggling and show the route. Skip the horse-drawn tongas near the Taj gates: they look quaint but crawl through traffic and are priced for photo ops, not speed. If you land at Agra's Kheria Airport, the quickest exit is a pre-paid taxi from the booth just outside arrivals, ignore the swarm of freelance drivers inside the terminal. The ride to the city center is short but can feel longer if you bargain mid-journey; stick with the fixed-rate slip you're given. No rail link exists, so taxis or ride-hail cars are your only honest options.
